An Ordinary Monday

To the rest of the world it was just an ordinary Monday, to our family it was the day everything changed.

I remember how it felt to know that other people were still doing ordinary things, like buying groceries. My baby had died, the world had irreparably changed, my heart had broken. How could people still be thinking about dinner?

I remember how it felt the first time I had to walk back into the shops to buy groceries. To exist among people to whom that had been an ordinary Monday. To be carrying inordinate amounts of grief while doing ordinary things, blending in with people who didn't see what it was costing me to exist alongside them.

I remember how it felt when the cards and flowers stopped coming. When my husband had to return to work from bereavement leave. When the seasons changed, the tides rose and fell, the days kept following the nights, and the world kept spinning.

I Remember how it felt to feel like I was standing still while the world moved forward around me.

I'm walking now because Red Nose stand with parents when they feel like the only ones standing still in a world that kept spinning. I'm walking because every year in Australia 3000 babies and young children die suddenly and unexpectedly. I'm walking to raise funds to support those families, and for vital research to lower that number.
