I’m fundraising to save little lives this August, and to force myself off the couch
I used to be fit. Now, the thought of running 3kms makes me want to cry – not least because I have no idea how I’ll find the time around the boys’ activities! It might end up being laps around the house after bedtime…
So, why am I doing this?
Because I believe in Red Nose’s mission with all my heart. I work in this space, and I see firsthand the incredible work Red Nose does to support grieving families – and to prevent more families from ever needing that support.
Red Nose helped reduce the rate of SIDS in Australia by over 80%, and I truly believe we can do the same for preventable stillbirths. But we’re not there yet. Over 100 babies still die from SIDS or SUDI each year in Australia. That number might seem small – but for the families it happens to, it’s everything.
Every day, nine babies and children are lost suddenly or unexpectedly in Australia.
Some families only get minutes or days with their precious babies. Others never get to see their child take their first breath. One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage. I’ve experienced this more than once, and that first loss was one of the hardest moments of my life. I still think about that little one – and who they might have been.
That’s why I’m taking on the Red, Set, Go Challenge this August – to raise funds for research that saves little lives, and for the counselling and support services that help families through the unimaginable.
If you can, please donate to my fundraiser today. You’ll be helping make the world a little brighter for families who need it most.
