My challenge is in honour of Teddy Tlais (Austin’s Twin brother)
I’m fundraising to save little lives this August in honour of my grandson Teddy Charles Tlais 🤍👼🏼
Last year, our beautiful family, friends and community came together and helped raise over $20,000 for Red Nose Australia in honour of my grandson Teddy.
This August, I’ll be walking 3km every day with my daughter Tiffany and son James (Teddy’s aunty and uncle) as part of the team “Teddy’s Tribe” in memory of my precious grandson, Teddy Charles Tlais, while raising money for Red Nose Australia.
People often say there is no greater pain than losing a child, but I can tell you there is also no pain like watching someone you love lose theirs.
As Teddy’s Teta, my heart broke watching my step-daughter Rebecca and my son-in-law Karim fight so hard to bring their babies into this world. After years of infertility, they were finally expecting identical twin boys. We were all so excited, dreaming about the future and counting down the days until we would meet them. Instead, they were faced with one heartbreaking obstacle after another. Despite multiple surgeries, months of bed rest and so much hope, our beautiful Teddy gained his angel wings at just 23½ weeks gestation.
In an incredible act of love and strength, Rebecca continued carrying both Teddy and Austin for another three months before they were born together at 36½ weeks. The day I met Teddy was also the day I had to say goodbye to him. No Teta should ever have to say goodbye her grandchild, and no parent should ever have to say goodbye to their baby.
There isn’t a single day that goes by that I don’t think about Teddy.
Our family will never be complete without him. His place will always be there. We will always wonder what his little personality would have been, and what kind of little boy he would have grown into. He may not be here in our arms, but he will always be in our hearts.
Teddy’s life, no matter how short, will always matter. He will always be my grandson. I will always love him, always miss him, and I will never stop saying his name.
Red Nose Australia gives hope, guidance and support to families who face the unimaginable loss of a baby or child. Supporting this incredible organisation is one way I can honour my beautiful grandson while helping other families who are walking this same heartbreaking journey.
