Fundraising to help families that have lost babies. remembering baby Sunflower.

The loss of our beautiful baby Sunny, Sunflower named by her big sister Freya is the hardest heartbreak we have ever had to endure. It has shattered every single aspect of our lives. 
We have been using the support services of Rednose, their β€œhospital to home” program, peer support groups, helpline, and counselling services, these services have been so amazing to be held by volunteers and professionals that understand the grief of losing a baby and are there to support us and hold space for our babies while we navigate shock and grief, also as a space to meet with other parents that understand the same pain. Just knowing there are people through Rednose to talk to, call or ask for advice has been really good as we have had to navigate something no one ever wants to. That’s what this fundraising is for, to help with the funds that provide these services.Β 

In August people are fundraising by walking 3km a day. In August we will be in Netherlands for half of it…. So can walk our daily 3km in the sunshine and past sunflowers, fitting for our Sunflower baby. (The plane ride home no walking will occur) then at home we will be able to walk through the bush and by the river I go to remember Sunny.Β 

Feel free to donate if you want, or even simply go for a walk in nature with the intention of remembering Sunny. Sometimes we listen to β€œyou are my sunshine” or β€œthe lost words blessing” to think of her, or simply the sounds of nature.Β

The last walk of the challenge.

Monday 31st Aug
I feel proud of myself for completing this challenge. Physically I have been in recovery from post partum where I have had no energy, extremely low iron and the grief and trauma has created havoc on my nervous system, so to walk has been to begin healing my body. Emotionally it has felt like one thing to do in the day no matter the day, on days when the grief comes and goes in waves, or the days where the entire day is filled with the grief to walk is one thing I can do. Sometimes it’s a crying walk, and others a nature walk and sometimes a walk with friends or family. I am always thinking of our Sunflower baby and the heartbreak feels very heavy but to be able to talk and share about her is very helpful. Thankyou to all those who have donated, they are a great charity helping families that have lost babies. I love you Sunny, love mum.

Lilydale lake.

Friday 28th Aug
A walk with a friend around Lilydale lake. A beautiful walk and talk with someone I am able to talk about Sunny and her birth, my dreams and fears and grief.

Rednose day.

Family walk in the sunshine on Rednose day. Freya often says β€œI miss my sister” recently, and she even said today β€œyou and mama work very hard and are very busy with 2 kids. πŸ₯ΉπŸŒ»β€οΈ

Dolly Parton Inside walk.

Wednesday 26th Aug
Rainy today so I walked at the gym. I listened to Dolly Parton music the whole walk, Dolly Parton died today so to listen to her music felt a nice tribute. Her songs of joy and heartbreak and love of nature. πŸ¦‹β›°οΈ

Zoo walks

Wednesday 26th Aug
Lots of Zoo walks the last 4 days. Walking on my lunch break. Being back at work is very hard, the Zoo is filled with women on mat leave which is a constant reminder of wishing I had baby Sunflower with me to hold. The zoo also has some beautiful nature around it so walks have been good.

River walk

Friday 21st Aug
Today’s walk was a more slow and emotional one. Stopped along the way for hugs, a cry and chats from a neighbour. Listened to Sunflowers songs down by the river. Saw some bright yellow wattle starting to bloom. 🌻

Thursday 20th Aug
Yarra junction walk today with Freya. Glimpsed some sunflowers on a mural in the distance past the gumtrees. 🌻

Gym walk today as rainy weather

Thursday 20th Aug
Walked at the Gym today. Freya has been saying β€œI miss my sister” a lot today and recently. 🌻

Zoo walk

Tuesday 18th Aug
Walked around the zoo today. First week back at work so it’s a big step. Being quite brave because there are so many babies at the zoo which is quite hard.

Monday 17th Aug
The sunshine is out, thinking of our Sunny baby as I walk in the sunshine. Still very jet lagged. Back to work today.

Back to australia

Monday 17th Aug
No walking on the long haul flight, but no worries I’m way ahead in my goal kilometers anyway. Back to australia and did 4km along the river, kookaburras, gumtrees. Back to the home where Sunny was born, it has been an emotional homecoming, but nice to be back.

Thursday 13th Aug
Solar eclipse! I did my last walk in the Netherlands today. Around Boskoop town. Soon to be a flight and the rest of the walks will be in a melbourne winter.

We walked 10km around the Efterling fairytale park today. Freya had a beautiful day of imagination and fairytales.

London walking

Thursday 6th Aug
More walking through London and london gardens. This time more walking at nighttime after we saw the show β€œmy neighbour Totoro”. Saw sunflowers on a 3 wheeled bike.

10km airports and London.

Wednesday 5th Aug
Today was a very big walking day. 1km walk in shipol airport, (saw lots of van Gough sunflowers 🌻) 1km at Heathrow airport, and 8km through London. Phew what a day. And very hot!!

Monday 3rd Aug
Walked along the Dutch canals today, early morning because the day is getting hot, the sun is shining. Thinking of Sunny by listening to β€œyou are my sunshine” and β€œlittle old you”. 🌻

We walked soooooooo far through Amsterdam for world pride. Over 6km walking from the train, along canals through crowds, to see a celebration of what has made our family possible.
