I'm running in memory of Mickey and for every little life lost ❤️

Every day, nine babies and children are lost suddenly or unexpectedly in Australia.

This was us in July 2023. I was six months pregnant with my much-longed for only child. 

One day, my husband and I went to work like any ordinary day. By lunchtime, completely coincidentally, Jeremy had suffered a heart attack and I instinctively knew something wasn’t right with our baby. 

Within a week, Jeremy had triple bypass surgery and our baby boy Michael (Mickey), named after my beautiful dad, had died. 

The grief and devastation was unimaginable and is something we carry to this day. 

Red Nose became a lifeline, connecting me to other bereaved parents and support services, especially at a time when Jeremy was facing his own difficult recovery. No one understands like another parent who has lost a child - grieving the life you were supposed to have with your child is something you experience every day for the rest of your life. 

I want to support parents that are experiencing this devastation, and for the inevitable other parents who will join a club no one wants to be part of. My hope is that one day, research will save more little lives and that others won’t experience what we have.

Through the love and support of our family and friends, and the support of services like Red Nose and Heartfelt (who took this beautiful photo of me and Mickey), we have found a way to live alongside our heartbreak and grief. We are so grateful to have each other.

Running has also helped heal my heart. I’m taking on the Red, Set, Go Challenge this August, running 3km a day in honour of our little boy Mickey, for Pax and for Eleanor, and for all the other little lives lost. You are never forgotten.
